Little Canvas, Big Joy: Painting My Melody & Kuromi with My 2-Year-Old
Share
My daughter is deep in her My Melody & Kuromi era. Last night I pressed a few Halloween-y designs onto 4×4 mini canvases so we could paint them together. This morning she spotted them, chattered happily, hugged each canvas like it was treasure, and sprinted off to find her matching pajamas.
Watching that pure, fizzy excitement over something I made for her felt like a little lightning bolt of gratitude. I’m thankful for the creative gene that lets me pull her current obsessions off the screen and into her hands.
What I made
- Four 4×4 mini canvases with bold black line art (fortune-teller scene, trick-or-treat trio, spooky braids, stitched cutie).
- Thick outlines so tiny painters can stay inside the lines (or not—both are cute).
Notes for future me
- Thicker lines before cutting: beef up the stroke weight in the art before sending to Cricut so the outlines read clearly on canvas.
- Pre-press the canvas: quick heat press on the blank canvas first, then lay the image and press again for a cleaner bond.
- Mini press works great: if you don’t have a shirt press, the mini press is solid for small canvases.
- Thumbprint heart keepsake: when we finish painting, take a thumbprint from each of us, make a little heart, and write the date on the back.
